It gives me great pleasure to announce a giveaway hosted by CSN Stores, an All-Clad 12-Inch Aluminum Frying Pan with a lid. If you are not familiar with CSN, it is an online company that has a broad offering of housewares from kitchen appliances to platform beds. I was particularly pleased to be able to host a giveaway for an All-Clad pan, because I have been using my All-Clad Copper Core set for the past decade, and based on my experience, I trust that this pan will be a treasured addition to anyone's kitchen.
The 3-ply bonded design of All-Clad Stainless incorporates an aluminum center core clad with stainless steel to produce highly-responsive conduction and even heat distribution. The magnetic stainless steel exterior is essential to ensuring compatibility with all induction cooktops, while also being ideally-suited for use with traditional cooktop technologies. This bonded construction helps make any cooking task easier, giving you more control.

I'll share with you my favorite memory. In January, 2007 I went out to dinner with one of my best friends, Kelly. We headed to a great seafood restaurant called Scott Howard, which to my dismay is no longer in business. We each ordered a three-course dinner accompanied by a beautiful bottle of 2004 Ici/La- Bas pinot noir from the Mendocino Valley in Northern California. When the check arrived, the waiter told me that the bottle of wine had been paid for by the couple sitting next to us, who had left an hour before! We were stunned! We had barely said two words to them. To this day, I wonder why they chose to give two random strangers such an awesome gift. They certainly made an impression, I will never forget their generosity. I hope that I run into them again someday so that I can express my gratitude. I truly believe that random acts of kindness have the power to grow, spread and impact everyone. In fact, that evening we couldn't keep their kindness to ourselves, we passed the favor onto our waiter's gratuity.

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 207 Newer› Newest»This is actually the most recent random act of kindness for me. My neighbor has been mowing my yard for me lately. The other day, I mowed the back yard, put away the lawn mower to take a break before mowing the front, and when I returned to the front, my neighbor was mowing it! I think I'm going to bake him a cake!

Random act of kindness: woman at airport who helped me get my kids through security. Was so much nicer than the glares ;)!
Must comment on the spring rolls first. They are my favorite too. I have never made them at home and I love ths whole shrimp in yours. Such a lovely presentation. And the mint is a must.
Nice giveaway, Christine.
My story is rather recent. I had some major surgery last summer and after I got home from the hospital a friend (not a close friend) called to say she was bringing lunch. It was a multi-course lunch too. I did not know her very well, but she was the only one to do something like that. And a month later, she invited me to a dinner party! You never forget things like this.
My most recent act of kindness was when my good friend Pam surprised me with a new Paula Deen's pot and pan set! Just out of the blue.
I sat next to this gentleman on the airplane. He told me about his fascinating history in Northern Ireland, I told him about my work and travels. We ended up sharing a cab (no, the story isn't dirty - he was an older gentleman), since my hotel was on his way. He asked me if I had plans for dinner, which I did. He told me to take the friend I had dinner plans with and he'd make a reservation at this restaurant he "happened to own" (he wasn't going to be there that night). He refused to have me pay for my portion of my cab. Anyways, my friend and I showed up at the restaurant - I was thinking "wow, how nice he got us a table at this fancy place in Manhattan on short notice." The staff was amazing. We ate an amazing meal, but the real kicker is, at the end of the meal, the waiter told us our meal was taken care of by the owner. We left a huge tip. I was floored - why would this stranger treat me to such a nice meal? I sent him a thank you note, but I'll never forget. Bobby Van's Steakhouse in Penn Station, Manhattan. Classy gentleman.
Awesome giveaway =)
I lov hearing about random acts of kindness!! Not sure of my absolute favorite, but up there is: a couple of years ago, in a Starbucks drive-through lane, the person in front of me paid for my coffee. I paid for the next person and so on. I heard later that is started early in the morning and continued all day long!! How awesome is that? I later heard about it happening in other places, as well. What a simple way to put a smile on someone's face and start the day out right!

The one I remember the most happened last year in Italy around the same time. Here goes -
After a rather tiresome day trip to Capri, me, my hubby and my son(a baby at that time) were returning to Rome on a train from Naples. We had given a pre-packaged formula milk to my son in Capri and because of that he was showing signs of food poisoning. He had already puked once while on the boat from Capri to Naples. He again started throwing up on the train at periodic intervals trying to purge the milk completely from his system. We were feeling helpless and scared in a foreign country not knowing what was the cause of his sickness..A fellow passenger seeing all this drama unfold before him, helped us with our luggage, accompanied us to the cab stand and gave us useful info to find a hospital near our place of stay. That still is fresh on my mind. He was our angel on earth that day.

Someone left us a dozen yellow roses and we never knew who it was, but it sure brightened our day! :)

Random acts of kindness have come from my many blogger friends over the past year - offers to have me stay at people's houses when I am in town for conferences etc.. The kindness of strangers indeed.
One of the acts that has impacted me the most was being in Spain when I was around 9 or 10. It was on the metro bus that I noticed a man give up his seat for an elderly person that had just gotten on. I know now that this is customary and respectful to do, but it really influenced me. From that time on I thought about how simple acts can really help someone out. And... I loved giving up my seat :)

While vacationing in Arizona 20 years ago, my husband was golfing early one morning by himself. He was paired with a Native American Indian artist and sculpture. Families were discussed and my husband mentioned that I had been diagnosed with breast cancer the year before. Before noon the next day, a beautiful, carved marble bear fetish arrived at our hotel room as a gift for me from the artist with a touching note of encouragement. The bear still has a place of honor in my home.

I'm so excited to leave this message because I've been telling everyone about what happened when on our trip to Florida last week! The trip was a graduation present to our son and was to fulfill his long time dream of playing golf at Sawgrass. Fees are $375 a round, but my husband had negotiated a $240 rate based on our staying in the hotel. Or so he thought... When they arrived at the pro shop they were asked to pay $750! After much consternation and discussion the manager emerged from the back room to meet my son and ask him about his golf game and why he was so interested in Sawgrass. Then he asked my husband and son to wait for a moment while he went to check on something. When he returned he had in his hand certificates for 2 free rounds of golf! He told my son to have a wonderful time and to enjoy the course! And when they returned to the clubhouse at the end of the round he had asked a staff member to clean his shoes and polish his clubs while they had lunch! Needless to say my husband spread the tips around generously and my son had an experience he will never forget -- on more than one level! And isn't that the best graduation present of all???
Love your idea here!
My loatest act of kindness was to give some money to a homeless man on the street.

WHOA! What a beautiful memory! I got goose bumps reading the story and also can't believe how wonderfully wonderful some people can be. I was at the park in my neighborhood once and stood up from the bench after nursing my daughter. Well, the damn nursing pad fell out of my shirt and it landed on ground to my horror! A woman I didn't know picked it up and handed it to me with a smile. She made no mention of it to me or anyone else! She saved me from massive amounts of embarrassment!
hm... that's a great thing to ask us to remember!
A friend's mother was clearing out her kitchen and handed some things down to me knowing that I like to cook. Now I own a beautiful American pottery bowl that was owned by her mother and a roaster that was a wedding gift! I love having pieces that have history, so I was very pleasantly surprised at her generosity.

I love your story. How wonderful. When my daughter was little and in her stroller, we were in Dillards trying on shoes when someone stole her stuffed dog out of her hands and ran. A man came up and said he saw who it was and would keep an eye out. Later in the day the man came up with a brand new stuffed dog, exactly like the old one and said he couldn't leave without knowing my little one was leaving without a dog. It was such a wonderful thing for a stranger to do for a child. We are so grateful and even our new puppy is named after this stuffed dog. It's a big part of our family.
I really was not planning on posting a comment here...but these other stories have me inspired and have given me a nice reminder that there is a lot of good in this world.
I have been the recipient of many random acts of kindness, and have been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to pay it forward as well.
There is one event I will never forget. The summer after my junior year of college, I drove home to see some friends and was in a small wreck. The next day, on my way home, I was in another wreck. It was on the interstate in the middle of a huge summer thunderstorm and torrential rain, and I was hit by someone who lost control of their vehicle. After spinning across several lanes of traffic, I ended up in a ditch - terrified, injured and lost. Out of nowhere, a couple in a van pulled over, got out of their car and came to my aid. I was trapped in the car (which was totalled), so the couple called for help, then stood in the pouring rain talking to me until help arrived. They will never know how much their presence still means to me - they risked their own safety for a complete stranger. This happened 14 years ago, and I am still grateful for them.
Memorable random (small) act of kindness: as a teenager traveling solo visiting college campuses, I was pick-pocketed while traveling from Chicago to Ann Arbor (Go Blue!). A couple at the Ann Arbor train depot offered to take me to the local Howard Johnson, and get a room for me, while I waited for some emergency funds.
Here is one of my own random acts.I once knew that my neighbor had recently become divorced and she was feeling down s on Valentines day I put balloons and flowers and candy on hr porch and left no note so she would not know who it came from but she believed it came from a man across the street. They ended up dating and I never told her it was from me,she just thinks he would never admit to it.They have been married for ten years now!
I have a near-random act. My husband and I were going to get married in St. Croix. It was a secret - the only person that knew we were getting married was a friend that hooked us up with a good deal on airline tickets. This wasn't even like a "best" friend...she was someone we played soccer with for a number of years. But shortly before we left, she snuck an envelope full of cash into my husband's hand. It was several THOUSAND dollars - enough to cover the cost of our rings and then some. This friend was well-to-do, of course, but this random gift was something we were astonished by and were eternally grateful for!

Hey Christine, so very nice that those people bought that for you guys and left not wanting credit for it-very sweet.
I think the first thing that comes to mind for me as a restaurant person is a guy who came into our restaurant only during the holidays (a snowbird). I always at some point during his visit find a $100 bill in my tip jar, and I don't even know his name. It only happened at Christmas time, so I think that is definitely a kind thing to do for a tipped person during gift buying season!?!

I will follow you on twitter and also post this on my FB page..my recent act of kindness was a woman at the cemetary yesterday for fathers day, I have a hard time every year with that, I couldnt leave the flowers as someone stole his vase, I was so upset and tearful. She came over and offered hers and went to the office to order a new one for her gravesite. I was overwhelmed by her generousity and she made my fathers day with my favorite person in thethe memory of my dad.
One of my recent experiences with an act of random kindness came when I snuck out to the grocery store to buy a can of cat food. I was working and thought I’d make the 15 minute trip during a break. I had my wallet (since I was driving) but didn’t have my checkbook. Once I get to the store and look at the canned cat food I realize I don’t have any money…just some change. I had 32 cents on me and HAD to get the cat his food to tide him over until I could get his bagged food from a pet store near home.
I’m counting my change and digging in my purse (because they tax cat food) a woman in the pet food aisle is watching me, so I turn and ask her, “Do you know how much tax they will charge for this can of cat food?” Looking at my piddly 32 cents in my palm.
She moves into action, digging in her wallet, pressing two bills in my hand. “Here honey, you take this” as she closes her hand over mine, 2 one dollar bills pressed into my palm.
It hits me in an instant that may think I am going to eat the cat food or that I’m homeless or something. “No, no, no…thank YOU but I may need a couple of cents but I DO have a job! I just didn’t bring my checkbook!” Me now trying to give her the bills back.
“Oh no, honey. Don’t you worry about it. I;ve BEEN there” she says kindly waving her hand in front of her.
I don’t know if she thought I WAS going to eat that cat food or if she thought I was just that broke. But it was kind. And Hextall had his wet food that evening.

great giveaway and great act of kindness,
when my sis and I fist moved to San Antonio together to go to college, we would go to this tiny resturanut every night, they had great food and it was really cheap. One night while we sat what seemed like forever and finally asked for the check, the waiter said the older gentleman had paid for our meal beacuse we reminded him of his daughters.

What a great give-a-way! Random Act of Kindness. So many to choose from.

My random act of kindness must be lending a listening ear to my good friends when they needed to.
The latest incident of kindness was when I saw a Mom walking nearby a store I shop at...holding on to her 2 children and dragging all those shopping bags in one hand...I just had to stop and ask her if she needed a lift...her half shocked smile made my day ;0)

A few years ago, our car wouldn't start when we were trying to take our jetski out of the water. Two gentlemen helped move our car and use their truck to get our jetski out of the water. They wouldn't accept a penny and we were so grateful for their help.
Once when I was unemployed and strapped for cash, I had to use a bridge w/ a $2 toll. I had collected all of the change that I could find and was ready to hand it over (and expected a scolding from the toll attendent re the pennies, nickels, & dimes). Instead, she said that I was #9. Apparently, someone ahead of me had given her a $20 and told her to treat the next 10 cars that came through her tollboth. I've always been grateful to that stranger and later, I have done the same thing on that bridge.

A few years ago when we were in the Denver airport, my mom and I sat next to a bunch of military guys getting ready to leave for Afganistan. They were having a beer and talking about their kids and acting tough, but they looked pretty freaked out. They were chatting with us and hitting on my mom and being young and goofy. My mom and I gave the waitress all our cash (about $60) to pick up their tab, but not to tell them. Three other people sitting next to us also pulled out their wallets and contributed as well. We walked away to our gate feeling pretty happy. Our plane was delayed and about 45 minutes later, we saw the military guys glide by on the moving sidewalk and when they saw us they all started clapping and cheering and thanking US. After all they do for our country, they thanked us. I cried for half an hour.

Fave random act of kindness: My hubby and I were at our neighborhood restaurant (Ocean Grill) waiting in the bar area for our table. We struck up a conversation with a visiting couple (he from South Africa, she from South America) and my husband gave up his seat for the lady. We chatted and shared a drink before departing to our separate tables. At the end of the meal, our server said that our bill was paid by another table (the couple from the bar!) We sent them drinks to thank them for this very nice surprise.

My husband, myself, and his family was out to dinner one night at a fancy seafood restaurant. There were probably 10 of us total.
My husband spent the whole time talking about how he had been in Haiti after the earthquake and what it was like there. He is a Marine Corps helicopter pilot.
When we went to pay the bill the waiter said it was already taken care of by a gentleman that had already left. He said he appreciated my husband being in the service. Our bill was over $300!
We were blown away and of course wish we could have thanked the man in person.

I was shocked!! Then she asked if I can take her to a community centre on the same road which she couldn't found it.
I gave her the lift. I learnt always locked my car door now. I don't regretted gave her that lift because she did look really unwell there.

What a wonderful giveaway! My favorite random act of kindness happened when I was pregnant with Bug. About half way through my pregnancy I was put on bed rest. We had just moved to the US from Japan, and I didn't know many people in our area. I had met a girl at church who seemed very nice, but I didn't know her well yet. Well about 2 days after I got put on bed rest, I got a call from her saying that she had heard I was put on bed rest and did I know what I was going to do with Squirrel? I replied that I didn't know. She called me again the next day and explained that she had gotten a group of ladies together and they had planned out a place for Squirrel to go and play every morning during the week, and then someone to bring us dinner 5 nights a week. It was so incredibly unexpected, yet so kind. I don't know how we would have survived that pregnancy without that help. I am forever indebted to this now close friend.

Hmm I had entered a long story before but it seems to be absent :( .. so here I go again, coz I really want that all-clad pan!! :))
soo.. the story is am about to relate is from a couple of year back during a camping trip in W. Virginia..
After our breakfast by our tent, we left to hike in the Shenandoah and got caught is sudden and heavy thunderstorms. We survived by staying inside our car, but we weren't very hopeful for our things back in the campground; our tiny tent and all the camping stuff outside...
Imagine our pleasant surprise when we found out tent still upright and pegged and all the things outside covered by a generous tarp and kept dry!!!! Tarp wasn't ours.. it was our neighbor's!!! We hadn't even spoken a world to them..
A lovely Southern family, they had covered our things with their spare tarp and loaned it to us for the entire stay.. we just didn't know how to thank them for it.... :))

My most memorable random act of kindness story took place in Paris. I barely speak the language, but understand some. My family and I were looking for a train station and asked an older French man with a dog for directions. I could only understand parts of what he was saying, but thanked him and continued on the way I thought he had described. Moments later, he chased us across the street and added more information to help us find our way. I was surprised that he seemed to care so much to go out of his way to help us, even after we had already crossed the street and left him. I thought it was a great testament to the kindness of strangers.

My random act of kindness story. My husband and I were checking out of a supermarket around Christmas time one year. The man behind me had a box of Clementines. I asked him if they were good and said I hadn't tried them, but had heard good things about them.
He tore a little spot in the mesh that covered the wooden crate and gave me one. He told me, "Clementines are fantastic and you must have one."
"Are you certain you wish to give me one? I wasn't looking for that when I asked you about them."
"I know," he said, "but you'll remember this moment forever," and smiled.
Now I'm waiting until someday for someone to ask me about Clementines when I'm buying them and I'm going to pass along one to them along with the story.

My favorite act of kindness: I once was on the metro train on the way to NYU, but I kind of lost the way, and this woman heard me talking to my parents about NYU, and she asked if she could help, without even me asking. And she took us all the way to the school!

I tweeted again... my tweet of the day, haha :)
From Dawn: On the way home from a trip a couple bought the group's lunch without them knowing so they gave the money for the bill to the waitress as a tip. She sent them a letter explaining that she was about to hit a wall and barely had money to put gas in her car and thanked them so much for the tip.
From Daniel: When we were in Philly I felt so bad because a lady in a wheelchair was unsuccessfully trying to cross an intersection and I was driving so I was unable to help her across. I said a little prayer that someone would help her make it across and a guy helped push her across just before the light changed. It made me smile to see kindness like that.
We are now following on *Google* and *Twitter*. Don't ask me why we weren't before since we read each and every one of your posts. Awesome idea about the random acts of kindness as well.
We also liked it on Facebook- Daniel Lunsford did at least.
In 2007, my husband was home on his R&R from Iraq. At the end of his 2 weeks, he flew to Atlanta to catch his flight back to the front. Because he had a long layover, his parents flew to Atlanta as well and spent the day with him in the airport.
They went to lunch at a sit down restaurant. When they asked for the bill, the waiter told them someone already paid their bill.
Also that trip, someone came up to him to shake his hand and say "Thanks" for his service. When he withdrew his hand, he noticed a $20! Totally unnecessary, but my husband really appreciated those RAK's!!

My random act of kindness was yesterday. I posted on my blog about adoption fatigue and how I have been giving stuff up and wasn't going to buy the cheap awful ones anymore. The office manager at my husband's office gave me a Kohl's gift card and sent me to go buy undies. Silly and fun. And God knows it filled a need.
When I was a kid - maybe 6 or 7 years old - we took a family vacation to San Francisco. While I fell totally in love with the city, my most memorable experience was when my father bought a hot dog from a street vendor and gave it to a homeless man.
Thank you for hosting this generous giveaway - I would be SO thrilled to win!

I was cleaning the table of an old couple, my regular customers in a breakfast cafe, when I saw a pile of singles lying on the table. I hurriedly ran outside to catch them to return the money since I know they left me more than their regular tip. I knew they left it by mistake. As I was rushing out the door, I ushered a lady to take the vacant table and explained to her that I will be back as soon as I can as I was trying to catch the old couple which unfortunately I was not able to.
I went back to take care of the lady who was already long seated, waiting to be served. I apologized and explained to her what happened. I told her that I wanted to return the money because I know that was not meant to be mine.
When she left she gave me a huge tip which said, sometimes things are made to be yours... this one definitely belongs to you... I admire your honesty!
I was so touched by her kindness... such a sweet gesture

My daughter was driving home from college, a ten hour drive, when she had a tire go flat on her in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere. She called me and I was frantic, worried about her there alone. While we were on the phone, a car stopped to help her. It turned out to be an elderly couple who spoke with me and reassured me they would take care of her and her safety, and stay with her until all was settled. They drove her to the nearest town, waited with her until she could purchase a tire, brought her back to her car and the gentleman installed her new tire and got her on her way. My gratitude to this couple is indescribable.

I use to be a girl scout troop leader. A local sub shop bought 5 cases of cookies from my troop and asked us to deliver them to the folks in the convelescent home. So we went...boxes in tow, and knocked on each door handing out boxes of cookies to all the elderly people. It was just a joy to see the smiles on their faces to receive free girl scout cookies. Although I will never forget the old man who came to the door with nothing on but a strategically placed pillow!!!!

Random act of Kindness Story:
I went into a grocery store early in the morning (7am) with my 2 year old at the time. We must have looked tired because one of the store's staff came up to me and offered to buy me a cup of coffee and a juice for my son. He told me that his wife had just had a baby and he was so happy he had to share it with someone. He then started up a conversation with my son, which turned into them singing a cute song together! I'll always remember how kind and generous he was.

Lovely give-a-way, Christine, and I love the way you are doing it. Does it apply to international readers? Every day I receive random acts of kindness - not quite like yours, but from my students. Just today, one of the little gals came into my room after exams, with a shy little smile and a shopping bag. She asked me if I liked red licorice. I do, and knew to say yes. Then she grinned with pleasure, and put her little hand into her bag and pulled out a strand of twisted red licorice (I don't think you have this in the States) and handed it to me... sweaty hands, and all, I was delighted and deeply touched. So, when a friend called asking when they could drop by some moving passes I had left at her house, I told her to have a good weekend with them to pay the act forward from my student's gesture. That's what happens when there is one random act, and that, I love. Thanks, Christine. Some of these stories are lovely.

This one is an oldie but a goodie... when I was 18 and on my way to school on my bike, I fell off and broke my leg. I was alone. A woman(an angel really) saw what happened, and pulled over to help me. She put me in her car, and hoisted my back into the back and brought me home. She helped me get inside my house. I know my mom and I thanked her profusely, but we never saw her again. I always try to tell this story whenever I can, because it is a great act of kindness.
