It's eight o'clock in the morning on Super Bowl Sunday, I'm fresh off a seven hour flight, and I am ready to party. Within a few hours, our lovely foodie friends, which included Margot from White Hot Oven, Andrea from High/Low Food Drink, and Cindy from Chubby Chinese Girl would be coming over for the big game. On the menu were carnitas simmered in Pace Picante salsa with seven spices, homemade corn tortillas, guacamole, salsa galore, and lots of other yummy nibbles.
Before I had time to unpack from truffle week in Provence, I threw on my apron and quickly got moving in the kitchen. On the stove were pork braising in its fat, frijoles or black beans cooked in pork fat, and freshly pressed corn tortillas sizzling on the cast iron pan, and of course for those who didn't eat pork there were skirt steaks marinated in Pace Picante salsa for carne asada, and tons and tons of veggies, chips, dips and cheeses.
Before I had a chance to catch my breath guests arrived with goodies of their own to share. Thanks Margot for the flowers, Cindy for the cakes, and Andrea for the beer! Everyone gathered around the table helping themselves to food and drinks.
Lucky for me everyone took turns giving me a play by play of the game and the funny commercials in the kitchen, while I handed them their next taco. I personally adored Google's Parisian Love commercial.
As soon as the Super Bowl 2010 Champions were announced - Go Saints! - a very satiated and happy crowd packed up. It was a long and fun day, and while everyone would have loved for the celebration to continue through the night, we had to rest up for work the next morning.
Thanks to Margot, Andrea and Cindy for making this Super Bowl party such a success and so much fun!
