If there is ever a one week to visit San Francisco, Columbus Day week is it. It is when the Blue Angels visit town, and this year, it was when the America's Cup yacht race, Hardly Strictly Blue Grass concert and a critical Giant's baseball game took place (that eventually led the team to the World Series Championship!) This is also the one week in San Francisco when its sky miraculously gets cured of its chronic fog.
The incredible air show alone is worth a flight into San Francisco.
Take into account the diverse and incredible cuisine in the bay area and there is never a bad time to visit San Francisco. Here Alex is taking a big bite into a fig. I hope that his appetite and enjoyment of food continues with the same gusto.
Bay bridge - how many times have I crossed this bridge without appreciating its beauty. The bay bridge is balance of strength and elegance.
Plateful of figs. I've said it before, you'll never need a reason to visit the bay area because it is countless, the abundance of incredible fresh food tops the list for me.
Flowers ready for delivery. Imagine how sweet it would be to receive flowers delivered from a bike.

Turkey drumsticks. Wow!
Does this picture remind anyone else of The Beatles' Abbey Road cover?
My sweet boy causing ruckus for a couple frat boys when he swiped their bean bags. Hehe!
United's 777 was ever so gently streaming through the calm skies of San Francisco. I can't wait for our chance to ride on this graceful plane.
A sea of people out to see the Blue Angels. I still think the best place to be is on a rooftop in the Marina with a bottle of beer.
Unlike the near silence of the 777 and the Navy's Stealth Bomber, the Blue Angels nearly blasted our ear drums.
"Where did the Blue Angels go?" While socializing on the Marina Green Alex missed the jets swirling above his head. Do we have a candidate for most outgoing baby in the world?

Sausalito where Alex met with the most impressive foodie we know, Sherry Page of Culinary Getaways. She is an incredible woman in the foodie world and one of the kindest most interesting souls I've met in my life. It's worth going out of your way to connect with Sherry if you are in town. You won't regret it.
LouAnn of Oyster Culture writes a fascinating food blog on food history and everything interesting about food. She is as interesting, down-to-earth and lovely in person as you would imagine reading her blog.
Beatles mania! Between the yakitori - Japanese skewered meats grilled to perfection at Halu and the Beatles posters, we were in delicious rock 'n roll heaven. If you do stop in Halu, don't leave without ordering the bacon wrapped mochi, which is an interesting contrast of chewy and crispy textures.
I miss San Francisco for many of the reasons you have mentioned. Your little guy will one day appreciate it all!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're having fun. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
ReplyDeleteI don't think that you have photograph a United 787 Dreamliner. A Dreamliner only has 2 engines while the one in the photo has 4. That looks like a Boeing 747 to me.
Ah! I stand corrected. It is United's 777 flying through San Francisco.
ReplyDeleteYour post and beautiful photographs has allowed to revisit San Fransisco and enjoy from afar again; I don't think I have ever seen it so bright and sunny! Love the air show, the farmer's market and the adorable munchkin and his beautiful mama!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun packed in one post Christine. The Blue Angels and the tall ships are my favorite. Meeting a fellow blogger tops the trip off nicely.

It looks like you guys had such a great time! I've only been to San Francisco while on layover to Hawaii...hence, I've only been IN the airport. Hopefully one day I'll get out there to explore.
ReplyDeleteCan't believe how grown he already is. Wow!!
Happy Holidays!!
Denise
Christine, it was so fun to see you and Alex, as always! Your photos and your stories are so wonderful! Miss you guys!
ReplyDeleteI love your mother-son trips! I hope Mac and I take amazing trips like this together someday. Some day when I'm not terrified to travel alone with him! You must spill your travel secrets. Also, I am DYING to go to San Francisco. Your pictures and descriptions of food always do this to me!
ReplyDeleteIt's been many years since I traveled to San Fransisco and seeing this makes me want to go again soon! BTW, what a very cute traveling companion you have. ;-)
ReplyDeleteSF is such a fabulous city. I've only been there twice and loved it both times. What a super post, Christine. Such a wonderful experience for Alex. Traveling with kids is often difficult, but the joy of this trip shines through with your photos.

ReplyDeleteOh yes, this trips will become legendary...someday soon.
ReplyDeleteI tasted dried Mission Figs today and finally 'got it', so your son eating them is an inspiration.
Gorgeous photos and I can relate to the full-free-full schedule that November and December bring. I always plan on doing cards and making fruit cakes in September. Shame....it never happens! Sigh.
love seeing these bright blue sky images on this drab cold morning.
ReplyDeleteyes, Alex will enjoy seeing these in years to come. hope you have wonderful holidays. we are on baby vigil--my first grandchild is due to arrive any time now! All best, Nancy
Lovely to visit your blog. What a great post. I love the image of your son eating the fresh fig. And those turkey legs on the BBQ look super-delicious. And the photo of the two of you is just gorgeous xx
