After all of the party food we've been pigging out on all through November and December, both my husband and I have been craving a simpler, lighter and fresher fare. The nice thing about following food blogs is that meals are almost effortlessly planned for you. It doesn't often occur to me to search for recipes anymore, I just read until I find an inspiring recipe, think about whether I have the ingredients on hand, and see if I can accomplish the recipe by dinner. I've learned so much about different cuisines and cooking techniques by using this approach, and with so many great recipes to try I typically do not repeat a recipe within a month.
Lasoon Jhinga was featured on Living in the Kitchen with Puppies a few days ago, it fit the bill: 1) we wanted shrimp for dinner, 2) we had all the ingredients on hand and 3) it was quick, healthy and delicious. Lasoon Jhinga is garlic shrimp with a coconut sauce, a dish that I believe is indigenous to India. It's flavorful, refreshing and is fiery enough to give you a good kick in the rear to start the new year the right way. Thanks Natashya for sharing!

I had a hunger for shrimp last night, and now this is taking me to the Asian market near my son's. I still have shrimp left, so this is another meal for us, thanks for the idea!
That looks delicious. I've been thinking a lot about some hot pot recipes I saw on Martha Stewart. They sounded intriquing, too!
I'm up for anything with hot peppers! This dish looks fantastic!
This sounds like a delicious shrimp preparation! I made a coconut crusted shrimp with chilies the other day, similar flavor profile but a different recipe, I should probably post about it soon.
sounds quite yummy
heading over to take a look... your presentation photo is fabulous
I am so with you on craving lighter fare. I guess that is what happens to most of us in January! Happy New Year!
I'm also craving lighter fare but I haven't stopped wanting a cookie everyday! This sounds like a great dinner! I love Natasha

I am a sucker for SPICY food!
I'm so glad you liked it! I loved it too, so full of flavour.
I'm right there with you on craving something other than holiday foods. This dish looks like it more than fits the bill. I often want something spicy, or Asian after the holidays. Thanks for the recommendation, I'm off to look at the recipe! :)
Double drool. This is exactly what I want for dinner. Grrrr. If only my seafood hating friend wasn't coming. I think I'll bookmark this one for Sat. night when it's just my husband and I.
Looks great! And I agree, finding recipes on blogs is great... :)
We're craving light and fresh too after the holidays. I'm game for anything with shrimp.
Sam
I know what you mean about lighter meals. Soup has been our menu a lot lately. This looks so great. The shrimp and coconut combo is alway so good.
Can't wait to try this recipe! Looks awesome!
Looks like an amazingly beautiful dish. Love the simplicity yet incorporation of so many flavors.
MMM, spicy shrimp on the lighter side, count me in, sounds perfect!
Nice approach to just read blogs until you find the right recipe. I tend to swing back and forth between searching the web for recipes and scanning my cookbooks! Either way, my dishes are always tasty and fun to make!
Wow! That sounds delicious. I love coconut and a little spice sounds just about right.

Wow, all the flavours appeal to me! And you're right ... light meals are the way to go, after all the feasting.
I tend to forget how the flavor profiles of Indian food really enliven the palate, especially post holiday food traditions. Thanks for the link to a great recipe.

Hi Christina! I'm so glad you have found your blog (through another blog!) I like to last minute plan (aka not planning at all) dinner by browsing food blogs too. It's just so easy to find something amazing like this shrimp dish!
Great approach to dinner. This shrimp looks amazing... fresh and simple.
Mimi
Christine, I use a similar approach when wondering what to make for dinner ~ my cookbooks are collecting dust!
This dish looks delicious and you've served it up so attractively... I wish I had some right now. xo
That is a good point - now my problem isn't not knowing what to cook; it's finding too many things I want to cook, and not enough time (or appetite :).
Congrats on the Foodie Blogroll!
Enjoy!
Yup - gonna put this on my to-cook list. =) Fabulous photos.
