SATURDAY FARMERS MARKET Union Square New York

I receive so much inspiration from the farmers' market that I can't help but attempt to capture the simple beauty of the fresh fruits and vegetables displayed. Being surrounded by fragrant and gorgeous produce is invigorating to me, it awakens my senses and feeds my curiosity, creativity and imagination. Wherever I go in the world, I look forward to visiting the local markets because it tells me so much about their way of life. So without further ado, I wanted to share with you some of my local inspiration at the Union Square Farmers' Market.

This little boy was just as excited as I was to find the variety of decorative gourds. He was squealing with  so much delight and wanted to take all of them home! So did I!

I love these bright colors! They inspire so many dishes.

These were the biggest Thai eggplants I've ever seen! They were the size of baseballs!

How cute is this photo? This woman was carrying her pug like a baby. I can't blame her, it gets so crowded at the farmers market that these poor cuties get knocked around in every direction.

Aren't these mums gorgeous? I've been noticing the dense canopy of this flower dotted along the sidewalk uptown. The rustic burnt orange color blends in so well with the autumn background!

I enjoyed these mums so much that I'm sharing another photo of another mum.

Apple season is in full swing, so you can look forward to many more postings on this pomaceous fruit. This variety is  the Macoun, which is a cross between the McIntosh and Jersey Black.  It is a particularly sweet and juicy apple relative to its peers has a tender flesh.

In case you didn't know, here's how these eggs measures up. Do you see those smiles?  Happy eggs come from local farmers.

Amid the slabs of bacon on display at Flying Pigs' stand, I asked for two pork shanks and a Boston butt.  Peter, the guy behind the stand asked, "Are you a professional cook?" I laughed out loud. "No, but I'm good enough to be a professional eater." What I nice compliment!

Please do get in touch with me before you travel out here. I'd love to help, and we can meet up for coffee, lunch or a visit to the Union Sq. farmers market.

That would be great Christine! Very generous, it'll be my first time in the city, I'd appreciate the pointers. I'm sure we'll be in touch lots over the coming months!

My feelings are similar in regards to Farmers' Markets. So much inspiration,...love them:) Sometimes I pick up vegetables that I've never eaten before in my life and think, "Now what can I make with this?!"
Very nice photos! I've been wanting to post some of my local market, but have not done so yet. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Flour,

I feel the same way and have made a habit of picking up items that I've never worked with. It never ceases to amaze me the endless opportunity to explore and be inspired at the farmers' market.

Thanks for stopping by.
